What Now?
Joe Biden is toast. What many of us have been warning about for a long time was seen by the voters last week: Joe Biden is not fit to lead this country and in fact has not been in charge much of his term. I saw the signs of senility that are unmistakable to a psychiatrist, or even to most practicing neurologists: mumbling, a stiff gait, a vacant stare, run-on sentences, and a slack jaw that hangs beneath a brain that doesn’t know it’s time to close his mouth.
Profoundly Sad
Am I mad that most of my government has been lying to me and everyone else about our president’s senility? Yes, but that’s not what bothers me most. What bothers me most is sadness. Regardless of policies, party or personality, I want my President to be competent and to succeed. I am profoundly sad that he is basically incompetent and surrounded by incompetence. I am horrified to have confirmed what I’ve suspected for more than three years: Jill Biden is running the country. I never voted for her, nor did any of the other millions of U.S. citizens and voters. Who knows, perhaps she can win election on her own. Let her contend for the nomination and have her name on the ballot. If, as seems likely, the powers who actually run the Democrat Party (little different from those who run the Republican Party) will mount a bloodless coup and substitute another name for Joe at the convention, Jill can take her chances.
One-on-One
I am frightened to realize that whatever committee has been running the country has allowed Joe to meet one-on-one with other world leaders. They must realize just how weak and indecisive he is. Our position in the world – knowing that in the next 18 months China will near certainly move to retake Taiwan, while Iran is able to continue mischief-making in the Middle East, and Russia’s crusade moves on to Estonia once Ukraine is defeated - leaves us weaker on the world stage.
I understand VP Harris is furious at being left out of the coup; I’m certain the coup plotters will come to their senses and decide that the first Black/Asian female Vice President cannot be cast aside except at enormous cost. But VP Harris should be careful what she wants.
It’s a Great Year to Lose
2024 is a great year for a Party to lose an election. The country is in such bad shape with inflation, the border, problems with the dollar, the need to rebuild the military, the economy and energy, whoever wins will have to spend 100% of his/her time just fixing what Joe Biden broke. The person elected this year will get no credit for any accomplishments.
Concur with all of this. Except the profound sadness. I feel more primitive emotions regarding all of it.
You really think Russia is heading to Estonia?
I think they got way more than they bargained for with Ukraine. My guess is that they'll be licking their wounds for a good while before thinking about moving to another country.
