Biden has now lost any pretense to the moral High Ground
From the early days of his administration, Biden has focused on dividing America along racial and ideological lines. He has repeatedly declared white supremacy and white supremacists the greatest threat to America. He has excoriated police, overrepresented by whites, and sought to limit their authority. His own Vice President contributed to, and sought donations for, the Minnesota Freedomfighters Fund, which supports bail for racial rioters in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death.
There has been a growing anti-Jewish movement in the Democratic Party for a couple of decades. It showed itself in the Party embracing the Reverend Louis Farrakhan, who referred to Judaism as a “gutter religion.” It further was demonstrated by supporting the Reverend Al Sharpton, who had incited the Crown Heights riots after a young Jewish man accidentally ran over a child.
Blacks? Jews?
Democrats have relied on Black votes for decades to win elections. From the Twenties to the Sixties, Black and Jewish protesters faced discrimination and violence together hand-in-hand. In the Sixties, LBJ calculated that there would be more Black votes going forward than Jewish votes and promised self-designated black Civil Rights “leaders” a place at the table in exchange for them promising eternal black majorities. Johnson made no such effort to ally himself with Jews. Throughout this period, Jews voted Democrat at 60%-plus rates and were phenomenally successful political fundraisers for Democrats.
On October 7, 2023, Hamas launched an attack from the Gaza Strip in southern Israel, killing more than 1,100 people. Hamas has used the location to launch thousands of rockets into Israeli cities, towns and other settlements. Israel has completed two-thirds of its job of getting rid of Hamas, which uses schools and hospitals to hide their operations including rocket launchers. This has made it difficult to counter Hamas without causing civilian casualties among the population. In fact, Hamas prefers there to be civilian casualties. With one-third to go, President Biden has advised Prime Minister Netanyahu to proceed with caution. Netanyahu is already proceeding cautiously to limit civilian casualties. That isn’t good enough for Biden. A food convoy was accidentally attacked; Israel immediately apologized, launched an investigation and fired two senior military officers. Compare Israel’s actions to ours when, in the first demonstration of “over the horizon” response we killed nearly ten aid workers, including about seven children. No one was ever fired. In fact, there was never an investigation, nor even an apology.
Hamas and the Houthis in Yemen have been firing on U.S. military locations with more than fifty casualties. Our response to date has been minimal. Hezbollah has launched rockets into northern Israel. Israeli response has been muted. Last Sunday Iran fired about three hundred rockets, drones, cruise missiles and ballistic missiles into Israel. Some of the swarm were shot down by US forces, Jordan, the UAE, and Saudi Arabia; the remainder were shot down by Israel. President Biden has told Israel not to respond, but to “take the win.”
Protests
Meanwhile, low-information protesters have been busy blaming Israel for genocide, and shouting “From the river to the sea.” The phrase means “Destroy Israel.” Look at a map of Israel, or of the general area. Israel is bounded on the east by the Jordan River and on the west by the Mediterranean Sea. Representative Rashida Tlaib has claimed she didn’t know the phrase was anti-Jewish. Right.
In New York and other cities housing Ivy League universities, the streets are awash with anti-Israel demonstrations. The demonstrators claim that the video footage of the murders launched from Gaza was faked. And they aren’t limiting their actions to demonstrations. Jewish students report verbal threats and physical assaults. They have been chased into classrooms and other areas, with exits blocked. This is more than just protests or demonstrations. This is the breeding ground for another “Summer of Love” in which Jews, not blacks or whites, will be the targets.
Lost the moral high ground
Joe Biden has said nothing about the anti-Jewish movement. Perhaps he’s unaware of it. Perhaps it doesn’t matter to him. In either case, Biden has lost the moral high ground on the subject.
I don't know if Biden has EVER had the moral high ground, on ANY subject.
It's amusing to see the words Biden and moral in the same sentence.
