Denying that Canada is a racist country is an offense deserving punishment
Professor Rima Azar of Mount Allison University in Canada was suspended for comments defending her adopted country (she was born in Lebanon) from a charge of racism, and criticizing Black Lives Matter. She is an associate professor of health psychology. A student, Husoni Raymond, wrote “Disappointing to see a professor who's still ignorant to what racism is and will be using her power within the institution to uphold racists ideologies. Racism IS in Canada. Racism IS in NB." The offending post by Professor Azar:
"NB is NOT racist. Canada is NOT racist. We do not have 'systemic' racism or 'systemic' discrimination. We just have systemic naivety because we are a young country and because we want to save the world.
"Oh, one quick question to Mr. Husoni Raymond: Upon your graduation from St. Thomas University, you have been named the 2020 recipient of the Tom McCann Memorial Trophy for your 'strong leadership and character' … If NB is as racist as you are claiming, would one of its prestigious universities be honouring you like that?"
I’ve watched this nonsense go on far too long in the U.S. It has destroyed reputations and companies, led to rioting, looting, arson and murder, all in the name of equity, diversity and inclusion. “Equity” seems to be short-hand for equal outcomes rather than equality of opportunity or equality before the law. Diversity means diversity of skin color, the least important of all qualities. And inclusion actually means exclusion of all those not in agreement with the race war profiteers benefiting from the destruction of our country. We now appear to have infected Canada as well.
I’ve done business, visited or traveled in New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia. I have never seen any evidence of racism, let alone systemic racism, anywhere in the country. The only time I even saw bad manners was during a hockey game when one player appeared to trip another, but failed to stay and apologize. Canada is not a utopia; no country is. It has a mixed history of treatment of First Nations members, but in all appears to have confronted that past and done its best to move forward. None of that means anything in an environment where accusation is proof of guilt.
A combination of illnesses has left me unable to remain awake for more than short periods over the last ten days. Today is the first day I’ve been able to remain awake for more than an hour at a time. I do not expect to post another article until at least next week. I have to suspend this column, my author blog (marktreble.blogspot.com) and work on a new mystery series’ first book, Sea Monsters, until I can stay awake.

She speaks of her lived experience and is brave in doing so. I live in Canada and have seen the after shock waves trickle in from the states. “ if you do not acknowledge racism all around you then you must be a racist”...hard to argue that logic
