Election and Nominations
It’s time to invest in jackboot manufacturers and companies running internment camps. According to CNN, MSNBC and the Mainstream Media, at least. The (spit) Republicans won the presidency, the house and the Senate. Moreover, 49 of the 50 states moved rightward. Not only did Trump win more than 300 electoral votes, he won the popular vote as well as every swing state. A remarkable accomplishment for a man targeted by the Justice Department with four suits, plus two suits from overwhelmingly Democratic jurisdictions coordinated with the White House. The
Democrats’ loss was due to Kamala Harris running on a platform consisting of “I grew up in a middle-class family” and “I am not Trump.”
The Democrats need a new platform and some soul-searching. The Leftist Authoritarians who have taken over the party need to be ignored.
The election was historic in its breadth and numbers. The announced appointments included several that were inspired and a few that were inexplicable. My fellow libertarians are split on Mike Huckabee as Ambassador to Israel. I’m in favor of it; the appointment of one of Trump’s closest advisors to represent the US in Israel is sending several messages. One is that the years of Biden’s indecision and antipathy are done. We will stand with Israel, period. The intended recipient of the message is Iran.
Senator Marco Rubio for Secretary of State is OK, but there were stronger people available. Pete Hegseth for Defense is a subject of derision on MSNBC, but I say give him a chance. He will without question clear woke and DEI out of the Department. Hegseth is quite bright, has 20 years in the military and has written two books which reflect fine critical thinking skills and knowledge of diplomacy by other means.
Matt Gaetz as AG is swing and a miss. Ted Cruz is the foremost trial lawyer in Federal Courts and knows the Constitution and the workings of the judicial system better than anyone other than John Roberts. Gaetz may not get approved, and has been a major disruption in the House. RFK, Jr, as Secretary at HHS is a positive mood. He is no longer anti-vax and has adopted a laissez-faire attitude toward them. We’ve slid into disastrous levels of chronic illness, and I believe Kennedy is a good choice for Make America Healthy Again.
The new Department of Government Efficiency deserves its own article.
More to come as I exercise my brain and work on improving my memory. I sure hope Eisenhower’s health holds out; I can’t imagine a President Nixon.
When I read how Alan Dershowitz praised Ted Cruz I felt like I'd fallen into an alternative timeline of the planet. Now you've underscored it. Perhaps he should try a little harder to make the outside more like the inside.
Good analysis. I continue quite cheery.
My initial reaction to Gaetz was “ c’mon Donny, you’re just asking for trouble.” But now that I’ve watched the most dishonest DINOs have nuclear meltdowns of this nomination and have read that AG Garland ended his three year long investigation into Gaetz with no indictments , I say “ have at it Matt! “ The legacy media and the Pearl clutching politicians forecasting Gaetz will prosecute Trump’s political enemies…. The hypocricy is delicious as in “ just desserts.” If “ they” did nothing wrong, why are they so worried????
