Forget unity, let’s try for basic civility.
President Biden has outdone himself. On August 25, he told the audience at a fund-raising event in Maryland that "What we’re seeing now is the beginning or the death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy. It’s not just Trump, it’s the entire philosophy that underpins the — I’m going to say something, it’s like semi-fascism."
Earlier, on June 23, “He (the President) pointed to the falling budget deficit and plans to lower prescription drugs prices, and he called on billionaires and corporations to pay more taxes. He also took aim at Republicans who attack his spending proposals. "I don’t want to hear any more of these lies about reckless spending. We are changing people's lives," he said.
MAGA is a four-letter word
Biden acknowledged that inflation, which has climbed to a four-decade high, is "sapping the strength of a lot of families." But he blamed the GOP for failing to help.
Earlier yet, on May 4, Reuters reported that President Joe Biden sharply criticized former President Donald Trump's "MAGA" movement as extreme on Wednesday while touting his Democratic administration's efforts to reduce the U.S. deficit, which rose under his Republican predecessor.
In what could be a preview of a midterm campaign speech, Biden took aim at what he dubbed "MAGA" Republicans, whom he charged with protecting billionaires at the expense of working-class Americans while only paying lip-service to budget responsibility.
The Next Election
I’m sensing a pattern here. Coupled with the recent raid on Mar A Lago, it appears that the Biden Administration is attempting to turn the upcoming mid-terms into a rerun of the 2020 presidential election. That might not yield the results the President wants. When President Trump left office inflation was 1.4%, and my most vivid memory of January 6 is gasoline priced at less than $2/gallon. The “fewer jobs” quote is a cheap shot. Covid19 intervened; without that, the 2020 Presidential election would have been a rout in Trump’s favor.
Class warfare, the tried and true primary tactic of all Socio-fascists-at-heart.
Biden along with a lot of others, including many erstwhile Republicans is worried about a movement that wishes the government to function as it once did. The Tea Party movement advocated for that return, calling for lower taxes (taxed enough already) but the real frustration was with what we do with those taxes. They were crushed and demonized away and the elites sighed relief from the threat. The MAGA movement arrived but this time had a leader, Trump who took advantage of the idea of reforming government. He is in the process of being crushed and demonized along with the movement. I doubt the movement goes away but Trump has been badly damaged. He was imperfect as we all are but at least believed in the movement.
The future can't be predicted but the trend remains. The fiscally irresponsible governments are now even more tenuous. The collapse of 2008 was never managed and the pandemic made it even worse. The green effort has harmed world economies even to add damage to economies just emerging from the pandemic. The lack of leadership and incompetence worldwide will likely lead to instability that some anti-freedom advocates are trying the seize an advantage. The MAGA forces are likely to arise to counter them but there will be a lot of pain going forward.
