Speculation on SCOTUS
The Supreme Court of the United States recently ruled in favor of the Biden Administration on a case regarding the right of Border Patrol Agents to cut wire installed by Texas National Guard on the Texas-Mexico border. This will make it somewhat easier for the Agents to reach illegal immigrants in medical emergencies; it will also allow Agents to begin processing migrants for catch-and-release. The 5-4 decision included Amy Coner Bennet and Chief Justice John Roberts voting with the three “liberal” (read “Progressive”) justices to create a majority.
Strategic Thinking.
I think I understand. Roberts is famously a strategic thinker, and my layman’s review of Bennet’s decisions tells me she is similar. The decision on wire-cutting could be viewed as strategic. Three of the four border states with Mexico have Democrat governors: California, Arizona and New Mexico. Neither Joe Biden nor the Democratic Party will be in power forever. At some point America will elect someone with a different approach to life. The precedents established until that time comes can help defend the U.S. against Democrats’ suicidal instinct. If states are allowed to interfere with the Federal Government’s enforcement of border and customs control, then they must be permitted to do the same when the Federal Government isn’t invested in promoting the invasion.
It May Not Matter
I hope I’m right, and this was simply a small tactical victory given to America’s authoritarians to create a deadly trap on the bigger question of an open border. If I’m wrong, then we’re back to losing the country anyway.
Love the optimism!!
I think this is plausible.
