SUPPLY CHAIN TAKE TWO
How are we running out of food? Traditionally, the US has been one of the largest exporters of food. The only state where there should be any food shortage is California, which is avoided at all costs by independent truckers due to its nearly-impossible-to-comply regulatory scheme. In fact, the U.S. is one of the largest producers of food in the world.
Schools are running out of food. That is incomprehensible. We have no need to import food from any other country. “Supply chain problems” are a coverup for massive incompetence. Since January 20, 2021, we have encouraged people not to work, and labor force participation rates are low – and continuing to plunge. Millions of workers leave their jobs every month.
In the midst of a labor shortage, we are laying off people who have infection-provided immunity from COVID19 because they haven’t been vaccinated. This is particularly ludicrous in law enforcement, where police forces have been defunded or abolished, followed by spikes in murder rates not seen in decades. This has nothing to do with science, and everything to do with supporting a preferred narrative and diverting attention from real problems to demonizing a segment of the population.
Long-haul truckers have one of the deadliest jobs in the US, the sixth most prevalent by percentage but the leader in absolute numbers. Becoming an independent trucker is nearly cost-prohibitive. The number of long-haul truckers is well short of need. A single job recruiting site has more than 16,000 openings.
OPINION: This is a policy problem, not a supply chain problem. And the partisan press is urging us to lower our expectations. There is no lack of food; there is lack of respect for the American people by the Biden Administration.
Great/awful Sam Peckinpah movie, CONVOY (1978): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SERnoR0jAu4 Released at the peak of the CB radio craze.
