Ukraine
I was asked by a representative from Poland in the early 1990s to define priorities for rebuilding Ukraine. My answer weas high speed transportation of people, goods and information. I don’t believe that has changed at all in the intervening years. Other parts of the former Warsaw Pact had worked first on information, creating high-speed information networks – the internet – across their countries.
Ukraine sort of followed my recommendations. Poland was concerned that the country would serve not as a buffer but as a flashpoint for armed conflict. We’ve been shipping arms and ammunition to Ukraine. Where is the infrastructure support?
Audit Trail
We’ve sent $200 billion worth of lethal aid so far, but I don’t understand where the end point is. What is the goal? Keep Ukraine alive until XYZ occurs? Then, please tell us what XYZ is. Is it the death of the last native Ukrainian?
Is there any effort to audit where and how money, arms and ammunition have been used?
There was great shouting and rending of garments about supplying Ukraine with Polish MIGs. How could Russia know whether Ukrainians or Poles were piloting the planes? Those are excellent air superiority weapons, but Ukraine is a ground war. We had the option of providing A-10 Warthogs, which were designed to deal with the tactics Russian ground forces are using. Then there’s no chance for confusion.
We need to hear from the President and from the Majority Leaders of both houses of Congress on this. When is that going to happen?
My heart breaks for the needless bloodshed. Both Russian and Ukrainian. Those invested in it being a prolonged battle obviously do not have their children on the front lines
Spot on. There are all the platitudes about “Supporting Ukraine” and how this is really a fight for “Democracy”, but all I see are the same morons who orchestrated the collapse of Afghanistan now telling us how to fight a war.
Weren’t they calling the US imperialist during the height of the Iraq War? Or, better yet, calling Ronald Reagan silly for investing in “Star Wars”?
Amazing.
