The leaked draft seems intended to cause an uprising among Democrats who have accepted killing children as women's heath. The moment of choice was to engage in sex. I've always thought the government has no business in regulating personal decisions and the killing of the unborn certainly is a personal decision. But Roe established the government was in that business of removing the responsibility of the decision. Roe was one of many decisions that the courts have made to relieve the needs for contentious legislation. If accepted the issue returns to the states. At least it might stop the litmus tests needed for the court justices.
The uprising will die down only to return when the decision arrives ~ July just in time for election firestorms. Whether the public actually cares about the abortion issue is quite complex. We might not want Roe to be eliminated as part of our signalling, but I suspect we share the awful moral decisions a women must make and prefer it not be necessary. Whether it swamps our anger over the price of fuel remains to be seen. One is real the other simply a cause.
Twitter is such a small thing. The majority of the public never use the service. Those that do know that anti-conservatives arrive to trash posters no matter what was posted. That reaffirmation feeds their ego. Even under Musk that won't change. But we might want to question opinions and not get kicked for the wrong question post Musk. It will be good to know you aren't alone in thinking certain thoughts in public. Substack has been good about allowing we uneducated peons to comment and share our thoughts.
I use to be a democrat, sort of, but now I wouldn't vote for anyone who is, since they have sowed so much mistrust with their lying and false allegations during the Trump years. Everyone has an opinion about the leak on Roe v Wade, and mine is that it was done for political reasons and to mobilize their democratic base for the upcoming elections. Biden during his too long political career has gone back and forth on this issue, since he is a man of little character and totally self serving. As to your second comment I am glad Musk bought Twitter, although it's not my kind of venue. As to your third point, it's amazing that the democrats see themselves as arbiters of the truth when they have proved themselves to be liars and even willing to lie an elected president out of office. It is absurd that a singing, pimply 32 year old, who is elected by a democratic president, and highly biased in their favor is chosen to be the arbiter of truth. It's also disturbing that the media on all levels, including the left were complicit in all the lies pushed by the democratic party.
Fran, you're taking the bait. The most significant issue is the leaked draft opinion. That seriously damages the atmosphere of trust necessary for open discussion and suasion that is so vital to our country.
This is nothing short of an attack on our Republic. Of course, it was going to be about something with an impact. Otherwise, people might not care.
From the NY Post: "Noting the legislative hurdles it would take to enshrine Roe v. Wade into law, Schumer also began looking ahead to the 2022 midterm elections.
“To the American people, I say this: the elections this November will have consequences because the rights of 100 million women are now on the ballot. To help fight this court’s awful decision, I urge every American to make their voices heard this week and this year,” he said.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki reiterated the importance of the fall midterm elections.
“There needs to be–to win pro choice officials after the elections in November,” she told reporters." Seems there agenda is to get the vote out and have people choose people who will support Roe V Wade. I don't disagree the leak was very significant and has consequences, but I don't think the democrats care about that, but they are concerned, very concerned, about the upcoming elections, since Biden's polling numbers are so low, and the economy so bad. If the democrats could try at every turn to unseat an elected president, they don't care about the law and our country, and are capable of anything.
I was a registered democrat, but flexible. I wasn't giving Clinton, the war monger, my vote, however I didn't vote for Trump either. My choice brought on total condemnation from a life long friend, a cousin, and my brother and his wife. People like me made Trump's win possible, a "known" homophobe, sexist, xenophobe, etc, and at the same time I was also lending credibility to his deplorable base. Notice how today's "liberals" are totally intolerant of those that differ from their position, or their world view? I no longer talk to that "friend", nor did I speak again to my cousin after Trump's win. He died of cancer in 2018. I have a strained relationship with my brother and his wife, and I am never to bring up Trump's name, or those associated with him, nor am I to criticize anyone who's on Biden's team, yet oddly enough they see themselves as liberal. A meme was floating around Facebook which claimed Trump supporters are an uneducated, amoral lot, and many picked it up and posted it, including a second cousin who saw Biden as her savior. During Trump's four years in office the democrats, along with a very complicit press, have radicalized their base, so anything that is done, including a leak from the supreme court, or going to the homes of supreme court justices is acceptable. No matter the issue they push it to an extreme. It is no longer acceptable to disagree with "liberal positions" on any level, not even if one was critical of the destruction, injuries, even death, during the BLM marches. Do I think the democratic party is truly interested in the welfare of their constituents, absolutely not, and I see many of their ardent supporters as little more then intolerant Ideologues.
Elon Musk doesn't care if he's in their club--that makes him free to innovate.

You are right

I am another former D. Today I am a libertarian
Good choice.
